Our mission is to share the ‘The Spirit of Skye’ with the world and create something uniquely special. We’re a small team with big ambitions and our passion pushes us to make the best-tasting spirits. We feel so fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth – the Isle of Skye. With its stunning scenery, friendly locals and fantastic food and drink scene, it’s the perfect inspiration for our spirits. We’re committed to working sustainably and supporting local communities. Our business is built on a foundation of social and environmental responsibility.
We are grateful to live and distil our hand-crafted spirits on the Isle of Skye and sustainability and provenance have always been central core values to us.
We constantly look for ways to protect, preserve and reduce our impact on our environment while continuing to seek ventures that can further help to benefit and connect our island community. As we embark on the next phase and growth of our distillery into whisky production, these core values are as close to us as the first day we started making gin.
We believe helping the world starts at home. That’s why we’re committed to being a responsible business and using our position to make a positive difference in our community. We are always looking for ways to use our voice, our products and our people to make a positive impact.
All Misty Isle bottles are made from glass and are 100% recyclable. All our packaging is cardboard and fully recyclable. We limit to the absolute minimum the use of plastics.
We don’t use industrial machinery, we check every bottle of Misty Isle before it leaves our distillery to ensure the highest quality possible.
We work in partnership with various local and national shipping/couriers and the Royal Mail, where we work with them to reduced our carbon footprint and to ensure swift and safe delivery.
Our distillery has solar panels on the roof, we can’t guarantee the sun in Portree, but when it does, we harness that electricity to power our stills and reduce our energy consumption.
We conserve our fresh water from the Storr Loch, and in preparation to distilling Whisky, we have our own bore hole and we do not take from the water grid. We’re self-sufficient.
We have planted over 250 juniper trees in our distillery grounds and various local hillside locations to help with our conservation and replenishment of juniper. We only harvest what we need.
We are proud islanders, and the people of Skye are very much at the forefront of our distillery and story. Supporting and being part of our local community is a founding principle of Isle of Skye Distillers and we endeavour to support our island in numerous ways. We are always looking for innovative ways that we can create new employment opportunities, especially for our young people on the island. We want to keep our home grown talent. We’re bringing whisky production to Portree and will be only the 3rd set of stills to produce whisky on our Islands. This will attract further opportunity to Portree and help our local community prosper.
We strive to use and support as many local and small businesses as possible. We stock various local craft items in our shops as well as a varied collection of other Scottish spirits.
Skye Camanachd (Camanachd – the Scottish sport of Shinty). Thomas is an ex-player and is the Chairman. We offer support, especially to the senior teams and make donations to the club.
The agricultural show is one of the must attend events on our island. We support and sponsor various events and we have a pop up bar serving our gin and various selected local beers.
Light up Portree is a community event to organise new Christmas lighting and a reindeer parade through the streets of Portree for families. During the festive period, we sponsor and support this local event.
We are active and verified members the Actually Made In’ campaign. We aim to not only elevate the presence of craft distilleries and their associated brands, but also contribute to the movement of supporting local businesses to survive and thrive. This new campaign wants to encourage consumers to think about where spirits come from and consider craft distilleries when making purchase decisions.
Most of all, the campaign wants to shine a light on hard-working distilleries and their teams who are crafting amazing spirits day in, day out. We share stories, photographs and insights into distillery life and to show our loyal customers how their spirits are made and the contribution to local communities we make.
We hope that our story and distillery will continue to connect with the people of Skye while positively impacting our island and community. In time, we aspire to generate further employment opportunities and help our Island economy grow. Especially as we develop and expand our distillery operations into whisky productions.
Our deepest desire is that Isle of Skye Distillers will become a lasting legacy to our island community, we protect our resources that will continue to be passed on and enjoyed by future generations to come.
