We are Isle of Skye Distillers – Home of Misty Isle Gin

Provenance is everything to us at Isle of Skye Distillers – the abiding sense of belonging and community. Inspired by Skye’s dramatic landscapes and rugged coastlines we have crafted all our spirits to embody their place of origin. From the beginning, our intention was clear - to craft sustainable spirits that capture the true magic of our otherworldly island. We are grateful to live and distil our hand-crafted spirits on the Isle of Skye.

WE BELIEVE IN CRAFTING A LASTING LEGACY

Sustainability and Provenance have always been central core values to us. We look for ways to protect, preserve and reduce our impact on our environment while continuing to seek ventures that can further help to benefit and connect our island community.

OUR PACKAGING AND DISTILLERY

 RECYCLABLE MATERIALS

All Misty Isle bottles are made from glass and are recyclable.

PACKAGED BY HAND
We check every bottle of Misty Isle before it leaves our distillery to ensure the highest quality.  Once arrived at the destination, our single and six pack shipping cases are full recyclable.

SHIPPING METHODS
We utilise existing methods of mail delivery to reduce our carbon impact when dispatching orders.

SOLAR POWER
We have installed Solar panels to help power our distillery.

JUNIPER TREES
We have planted 50 juniper trees on our distillery ground and various hillside locations to help with our carbon reduction.
We endeavour to look for additional means to further reduce our carbon footprint, preserve our environment and benefit the local community.

OUR ISLAND COMMUNITY

We are proud islanders, and the people of Skye are very much at the forefront of our distillery and story.   Supporting our local community is a founding principle of Isle of Skye Distillers and we endeavour to support our island in numerous ways.

SKYE CAMANACHD
We are lucky to have such an active community on Skye.  We are big fans of Skye Camanachd (Camanachd - the Scottish sport of Shinty). Thomas and Ceitidh are members of the Skye Camanachd board.  Thomas is former player and Ceitidh plays with the ladies senior team.
We are proud to support our local club and in 2021 we donated Shinty Sticks to the 'Skye Camanachd Ladies' as well as benches for spectator use at Pairc Nan Laoch.

SCOTTISH FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE
Thomas serves as a Crew Commander with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, based out of Portree Fire Station.

ISLE OF SKYE DISTILLERS – TOMMY’S GIN

We launched Tommy’s Gin, in memory of our late father Tommy Wilson.  Tommy served in the British Army during the Suez Crisis.  Thomas (one of our Managing Directors), followed in our father’s footsteps and joined the Army serving in the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment (1 PARA).  Thomas completed multiple tours including spells in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Sierra Leone and has also worked as a Private Military Contractor in Afghanistan.  Today, Thomas still serves with the 4th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (4PARA) and continues to support the festival of Remembrance as the Parade Commander in the local parade in Portree.   We take great pride in distilling Tommy’s Gin and with every bottle of Tommy’s Gin sold, we donate a proceed to local Military Charities.  With Military Charities close to our hearts, the decision to donate proceeds from every sale was an easy one to make.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

With the outbreak of the pandemic, we were fortunate to be in a position in which we were able to stop production and turn to help aid the fight against COVID-19.
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were one of the first distilleries in Scotland to stop distilling our craft spirits and turn to producing hand sanitiser complying with the WHO (World Health Organisation) requirements.  Our hand sanitiser liquid contains 80% alcohol which surpasses the requirement of 60% and we donated many litres to various businesses and enterprises all over Scotland.
SKYE COMMUNITY RESPONSE

During the pandemic, we became active members of Skye Community Response. This enterprise focuses upon helping those in need during challenging times. After leaving the distillery on a Wednesday night, we drove all over Skye delivering food that was donated at the local food bank. Leaving around 1am, we often returned to Portree at 5am. It was great to see how quickly the Skye community pulled together to help each other.
PORTREE HIGH SCHOOL SUPPORT

We donated a hand sanitiser bottle to all 580 pupils and staff at Portree High School as a part of their return to school safety measures in August 2020.  It was good to bring some reassurance for a safe return to school during uncertain times.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

The Isle of Skye is truly a spectacular place, and we are fortunate to call this island our home.  From the beginning, we have always been greatly influenced by Skye.  From the dramatic landscapes to the stunning scenery, Skye is a place like no other.
Each and every bottle of Misty Isle is inspired by our Island.  We have always been passionate to capture the ‘spirit of Skye’ and to share the taste of our island with a wider audience.  We believe in crafting a lasting legacy and we strive to create something that not only we are proud of, but our island as a whole is proud of.  We hope that our story and distillery will continue to connect people with Skye while positively impacting our island and community.  In time, we aspire to generate further employment opportunities and help our Island economy growth.   Our desire it to create a lasting legacy, that will continue to be passed on and be enjoyed by future generations to come.
