Hot Gin Recipes to Warm Up Your Winter Direct from the Isle of Skye

The air is cold, the nights are getting darker and Christmas lights are slowly sprouting up wherever you wander. For us, there is no better way to end a cold winter’s day than with a warming festive tipple. At Isle of Skye Distillers, we’re preparing for the festive season with a few of our delicious winter cocktails! We’ve taken some old classics and put a festive Isle of Skye Distillers spin on them for you to enjoy this winter.

Starting with a classic, this gin cocktail packs a punch as it is sweet-tart and refreshing! Made with our award-winning premium, handcrafted Misty Isle gin, you are sure to please any guests you might have over the festive period or treat yourself at the end of a cold day! You can’t go wrong with deep reds at Christmas, so to make six glasses of this pomegranate festive drink we recommend:

  • 75 ml of our Misty Isle gin
  • 150 ml pomegranate juice
  • 300 ml Prosecco
  • OPTIONAL: pomegranate seeds to garnish, or you could substitute this with a clementine peel twist to add some more festive flavouring!

Firstly, use a cocktail shaker to mix together the Misty Isle with pomegranate juice and then divide the liquid between six champagne glasses. Next, top up each of these glasses with a Prosecco of your choosing — you can always enjoy the leftover later, or create even more cocktails! For the finishing touches, you can garnish this with some pomegranate seeds or a clementine peel twist for the perfect Christmas touch.

The Strawberry Bramble is another classic but we’ve added an Isle of Skye festive twist to the recipe for you to enjoy this winter, using our Pink Misty Isle gin. Carefully distilled with fruits that have been grown and matured in our distillery garden, this fruity ‘Old Tom’ makes a perfect base ingredient for our version of a Strawberry Bramble. You will need:

  • 35 ml of our Pink Misty Isle gin
  • 20 ml pomegranate juice
  • 15 ml Crème de Mure
  • 25 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml sugar
  • One blackberry and one strawberry

It is quick and easy to make this one; simply shake all the ingredients together with ice in your cocktail shaker before straining it into a glass. We’d recommend chilling the glass beforehand and pouring your cocktail over crushed ice. To garnish, we’d suggest a mint sprig to create the perfect mix of festive reds and greens within your winter cocktail. You could always choose to garnish with strawberries or raspberries to exaggerate the fruity raspberry and pear tones over the delicious juniper base our Pink Misty Isle provides.

“What’s your drink of choice?” “Negroni… Sbagliato… With Prosecco in it.”

If you’ve been on social media recently, you may well have seen this now-viral Tik Tok of House of Dragons co-stars Emma D’Arcy and Emma Cooke. It got us thinking about the classic drink and how we could perhaps put a festive twist on the much-loved Negroni. For a single serving of our Christmas Negroni, we recommend using:

  • 25 ml of our Misty Isle Cill Targhlain Gin (a London Dry style gin)
  • 25 ml Campari
  • 25 ml Vermouth (we’d recommend Orange Vermouth)
  • Sliced orange (fresh or dried)

Gently stir the Misty Isle Cill Targhlain Gin with the Campari and Vermouth in a cocktail shaker. Fill a tumbler of your choice with ice cubes and then strain the Christmas Negroni mixture into the glass. To finish, add a slice of orange. This makes the perfect pre-dinner cocktail should you be entertaining guests this season!

When you think of winter drinks, your mind probably heads straight to mulled wine or mulled cider. But have you ever tried a mulled gin? Our award-winning Misty Isle Mulled Christmas Gin brings together well-loved traditional festive flavours and truly embraces the spirit of Christmas. We like to describe this as ‘Christmas in a bottle’ and it’s a perfect treat for gin lovers during the holidays!

For a gorgeous festive tipple, we recommend pairing our mulled gin with your favourite ginger beer. This, mixed with the juniper and peppery tasting notes, with hints of raspberry and dark chocolate followed by the rich taste of mulled wine spices of our mulled gin, creates the perfect ginger winter warmer! Why not garnish with an orange slice and cinnamon stick for the perfect festive finish?
