We are an independent, family-run craft spirit business and proud creators of the multi-award-winning Misty Isle Gins and Misty Isle Vodka.
Our range of premium gins are handcrafted and distilled to perfection on the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands using only the finest foraged botanicals and the local crystal clear spring waters from the Storr Lochs.
We believe our mix of traditional processes and fresh innovative ideas, is what gives our highly acclaimed spirits their unique flavour and why our Misty Isle spirits offer a true taste of Scotland you won’t find anywhere else in the world. We’re soon to lunch a Spiced Rum and plans have started to extend our distillery to start whisky production.
Raised on the Isle of Skye, Thomas (on the left) and Alistair Wilson, are the brothers behind the family-owned Isle of Skye Distillers. In 2016 they gave up the day jobs and followed their dreams of building and opening the very first gin distillery on the island. As proud islanders, provenance is everything to us. This is reflected in everything we do, from preserving our environment through sustainable practices to supporting the community with every bottle sold.
Younger brother Alistair has an experienced background in the hospitality industry having successfully managed various bars and restaurants across Glasgow. Thomas, served in the Parachute Regiment and is a retired firefighter. Having been a builder and worked for the Highland Council, he’s pretty handy to have around the distillery!
Together the Wilson brothers have built Isle of Skye Distillers from the ground up – quite literally – to bring you the very best quality, Gin and Vodka Scotland has to offer.
The island has a wild and rugged beauty that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. And it is this unique landscape that not only inspired the spirits we’ve created, but also the name of our brand – Misty Isle. All our spirits are made locally in Portree using the crystal-clear spring waters from the Storr Lochs just a few miles from the distillery.
For their first gin, it had to embody its place of origin and truly capture the ‘Spirit of Skye’. The Wilsons took inspiration from the local landscape, the Old Man of Storr, and the Cuillin mountain range in particular. After many months of long days, burning the midnight oil, with dedicated research, experimentation and foraging local juniper berries, often in the rain (well it’s Scotland, after all!) – they finally found the perfect recipe. In early February 2017, they launched their flagship product, Misty Isle Gin.
Our commitment to promoting and supporting the local area and community is a core principle of our company. Our passion is to expand the business into whisky production and currently we are adding a new extension to our distillery and purchasing our new whisky stills.
Our first barrels are expected to be filled in early 2025 and you can be part of our journey by investing into our Founders Club and Cask Purchase initiatives.
Provenance is everything to us at Isle of Skye Distillers, especially the abiding sense of belonging and community. Inspired by Skye, we have crafted Misty Isle Gin, Vodka and liqueur’s, to embody its place of origin. Married with crystal-clear waters and the right balance of the finest botanicals, foraged from the beautiful Isle of Skye. Misty Isle truly captures the ‘Spirit of Skye’.
Tucked away behind our family home on the outskirts of Portree, we have four gin-producing stills, each named after a family member that is no longer with us. The Isle of Skye Distillers is proudly 100% independent and entirely self funded. The distillery is not yet open to the public, but we are hoping to welcome visitors to our distillery once we have whisky production up and running in early 2025. We have retail shops in Portree and the Misty Bottle in Breakish where you can browse, sample and buy all of our products.
